Description

Due to the fact that organized treks just began to visit the area in 1992 and that fewer than 1,000 people visit on average year, this territory is also known as the “Last Forbidden Kingdom.” With historic monasteries, traditional towns, and cave houses perched above the cliffs, along with the breathtaking architecture found at the walled city of Lo Manthang (capital of the Mustang area), it is rich in unspoiled Tibetan Buddhist culture.

An exciting 11-day itinerary featuring breathtaking hiking through a remarkable arid desert with colorful rock formations, deep gorges, and icy peaks all around you is provided by the Upper Mustang journey into the isolated Trans-Himalayan Region of this Tibetan Kingdom.

The barren landscape at the northern tip of the Kali Gandaki, which its residents call Lo, is commonly referred to as Mustang. Mustang is one of the most fascinating locations in Nepal because of its lengthy, intricate, and rich past. Although tradition, myth, and mystery surround Lo’s early history, records of occurrences there date back to the eighth century. It is quite probable that Lo was visited by the Tibetan poet Milarepa, who lived from 1040 to 1123. With its infinite stretches of wind-eroded rolling hills that are yellow and grey, the scenery of Lo itself is reminiscent of the Tibetan plateau. The lower portion of upper Mustang experiences greater rainfall, and the hills there are typically large red, fluted cliffs made of small, round stones that have been mud-cemented together. Villages are spaced out by several hours and seem to be mirages in the distance; in the summer, when the crops are planted, they are greener havens in the otherwise arid terrain.
